Massive Dust Storm & Rain Hit Delhi-NCR, Emergency Alert Sent To Residents | WATCH

New Delhi: A massive dust storm hit Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), driven by a fresh western disturbance, on Saturday evening. Dark clouds and strong winds swept across the national capital, bringing a pleasant change in the weather.

The winds were followed by spells of rain and thunderstorm lashing over parts of Delhi.

This comes after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that a dust storm with winds up to 30-70km per hour will occur in majority of Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurgaon and nearby areas.

Emergency Alert Sent To Locals

The government has sent emergency alert over “severe thunderstorm" on phones of resident of Delhi-NCR. Locals have been warned that during the course of the next three hours, thunderstorm, with winds of up to 90 km/per hour, will sweep the region.

Residents of Delhi-NCR took to social media to share pictures of the rain. A netizen shared mesmerising rain-soaked images of Lodhi Gardens, with brooding storm clouds hovering in the background.

Flights Affected

The sudden change in the weather has disrupted flights. Airlines like SpiceJet have warned passengers that due to bad weather in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may be affected. 

IndiGo also issued a travel advisory, saying, “Bad weather over Delhi has impacted flight schedules. We are closely monitoring the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly. We request that you stay updated on your flight status via our website or app. Please be assured that our teams are here to assist you at every step and provide full support."
